The ultimate nightlife experience: Sweetlive featuring Isaac Maine on percussion will perform at IMEX 2013 on Monday, Nov. 18 from about 10 p.m. Their minimalist dance set with live drums is certain to close the expo on a high.(Courtesy of IMEX)

Returning for its third year, the Indonesian Music Expo (IMEX 2103) will run from Nov. 16–18 as part of the annual Nusa Dua Fiesta.

IMEX 2013 is set at Nusa Dua Peninsula and presents a celebration of world music and dance. Promoter and ethnomusicologist Franki Raden suggests this year’s expo will be better than ever, and with confirmed performers from the US, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and Uzbekistan playing alongside a wealth of diverse Indonesian talent, he may well be right.

One of the highlights of IMEX is the Jerry Pellegrino Trio from the US. For many jazz lovers, Pellegrino needs little introduction and although much of his time is devoted to the musical education of children, his piano is clearly at the very forefront of his life. His trio is a must see for anyone interested in the genre and also features Pellegrino’s twin brother, Jim, on saxophone.

Sawung Jabo is one of Indonesia’s most notable modern day performing artists and has a long history with notable bands such as Sirkus Barok, Swarmi and Kantata Takwa, recording 18 albums along the way. In addition, he has collaborated on numerous other musical and artistic productions both at home and internationally. Much of his work is a fusion of eastern and western influences and has significant social undertones.

IMEX is a family orientated event and alongside the expo visitors can also browse stalls promoting Indonesian tourism, environmentalism and, of course, take refreshment at the numerous food and drinks stalls that will be located on the peninsula. Entry is free, parking is ample and the location ideal.
